THE PAINTING AND ITS CONTEXT
(A performative Documentation of a work as a contemplative series.)
I am thinking about The production of art and its mistery.
The context of this painting is a large warehouse on the ouskirts of Amsterdam. While during the week it is a very busy place, on sundays it finds itself completely empty. The machines are no longer in motion, and for an outsider - their purpose seems misterious and unidentifiable.
The warehouse-work follows a strict proceedure, it is repetative - an action is repeated hundreds of times.
The painting is 'Thinking man'
An abstracted contemplating figure.
This project is a consideration of the context of an artwork, and how the two influence eachothers meanings. !
You can see below the images that are this project (The first image being´the protagonist´ so to speak) as it shows the painting in a specific context, in which the viewer might be confused if perhaps the surrounding is also an artwork, or a painting/s? The prolonged use of the long-standing machines left traces on them which to me resemble what perhaps some painters try to recreate (in this case, the marks are there unintentionally, but can also be seen as artworks)
The last 3 images are a project that i did before ´The warehouse project` and where i got my artworks-in context idea.
